Character Interview with Dominick Maxwell from the book, Relative Terror
Thanks to much to author R.E. Sargent for sharing his character with us this week. This was a fun interview, and I’m intrigued by this character. I hope you are too.
A book where the character resides: Relative Terror
Character name and occupation? Dominick (Dom) Maxwell. Dom is the Manager of an Electronics store.
Where does character live? Phoenix, Arizona
If you weren’t in your current career, what would you be doing? It’s funny you asked me this question. I ended up having to take a leave of absence from my job because someone was trying to kill me and I went into hiding. My dream was to be a rock star, but we all know how dreams go.
What is your greatest extravagance? I’m a pretty simple man. Humble house, humble truck. I have been trying to save my money, so I don’t have to work for the rest of my life. I really don’t splurge spend on anything.
What is your greatest fear? Losing everyone around me. Everyone is pretty much gone except for my sister. Don’t even get me started on how they all died.
What is the trait you most deplore in others? Stubbornness and narrowmindedness. I am dealing with a detective that is out to get me because he can’t see past his inability to know when he is wrong.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? These dreams I am having are making me feel crazy. I so want to feel normal.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? I’m nothing special, but I’m proud of that fact that I am a really good guy. When I die, which hopefully will not be soon, I want people to remember me for that.
What is your most treasured possession? Alright, so she isn’t my possession. She would probably kick my butt if she heard me say that, however, she is the most important thing to me.
What do you most value in your friends? Honesty and integrity. Unfortunately, I don’t really have many friends since Billy died.
What is your greatest regret? Not having figured things out sooner. I would have saved so many lives. If that leaves you confused, it’s a complicated story that you will need to read to understand.
Do you have a motto? If so, what is it? I’m a pretty positive person most of the time. The motto I live by is “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right”.
Are you lying to yourself about something that greatly affects your life? Honestly, I don’t think I’m lying to myself. I think there is a part of me that even I don’t know. Sometimes I wonder if I am losing my mind.
Pick another character in your world and tell us what you like best about them. Jenny is my favorite. As cliché as it sounds, I picked her up at a gas station. She is not only beautiful but pretty damn smart. I’m a little smitten by her. Okay, more than a little.
What event in your life shaped you into who you are today? My entire family being killed. It’s pretty difficult to get past that one.
